pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

Sir,

I am a man possessed of about £300-0-0 ready money and a large stock in the farming line. I have also seven sons under 14 and 4 between 14 and 18 years of age, several of them understands tilling the land and are well acquainted with the nature of husbandry in all its branches and I wish to take them to the Cape of Good Hope. I most humbly beg your honor will please to inform me when and to whom I may apply for a passage. By granting the solicited information you will greatly oblidge, Honor'd Sir,
