pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

Mr. HEGGAT presents his compliments to Mr. GOULBURN and will be much obliged by any information with respect to a W.T. GYFFORD who has removed his furniture &c from a house which he rents of Mr. HEGGAT for the purpose of evading payment of the rent and who he understands is going out in a ship belonging to Government to the Cape of Good Hope. Mr.H's object is to know whether there is any mode of stopping or of arresting him
