pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

I Beg Leave to trouble you with these few Lines in hopes that you Will Be So Kind as to Let me the Grant that is Allowed to Men that would Wish to Proceed to the Colonies in the Cape of Good Hope, With Regulations and trough What Investigation a Person may Proceed, as I am a Young Man and a Smith By Trade With Only a Wife & Child as Family and have Been in His Majesty's Service Before and But a Small Pension.
