pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

My Lord,

Being desirous of settling as agriculturalists at the proposed new settlement at the Cape of Good Hope I take the liberty of requesting the favour of an intimation from your Lordship if a grant of land & under what conditions will be given to such persons as may be desirous of proceeding to that settlement, the party paying their own expence of conveyance £10 to be considered in no way chargeable to Government; I take the liberty of suggesting the party propose taking a capital (in their opinion) fully sufficient for bringing into cultivation a quantity of land equal to that mentioned in your Lordship's circular.
