12th Oct 1819
Sir,
I should esteem it a favour if you would have the goodness to inform me if Dr. BARUK is one of those selected by Government to procede to the Cape and if my name is contained in his list. There is every reason to suppose that Government detirmination is fully understood by such party as are approved of.
The suspicious manner in which Dr. BARUK refuse to give any satisfactory answer I cannot avoid suspecting his intentions may not be just and that four pounds payed to him on my behalf by my friends and as part of the deposit required by Government provided his party were approved of, intirely lossed.
If you Sir will have the goodness to comply with this request it may possable yet be in time to recover it and four pounds is a large sum for one in my circumstances to loose.
From Sir your very humble servt
Henry CLARKE
