pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

The Humble petition of C. BROWN

States

That your petitioner having a great wish to go to the Cape of Good Hope having a wife and three small children and that –

Your petitioner having been Yoused to that Clyment for several years – and can produce good Carrectors and your petitioner -

Hoping that Your Lordship will Except Him and grant him the Instructions that He may Know what He have to abide by.

1st Boy aged 6 years and 10 months

2nd Boy aged 5 years

1 Girl 1 year & a half

And in duty bound

Will ever pray
