My Lord,
I am lately arrived from the country in quest of information relative to the intended settlement at the Cape of Good Hope but not being able to meet with any persons who would give me proper intelligence I have been recommended to write to your Lordship's office to beg the favour of any papers which may be printed on the subject.
My friends are willing to advance me a reasonable sum both for my passage and to make use of when arrived and all I wish is to be enabled to join myself with some other parties which I understand is necessary according to the regulations. If my Lord you will have the goodness to direct one of your clerks to forward me the papers which I understand printed for this purpose I shall feel myself particularly obliged.
I am my Lord
Your Lordship's most obedient humble servant
John Collen BRIGHT
