James SMITH, bachelor of this parish married Mary Ann CHERER, spinster of this parish, a minor, by Licence on 18 July1810 in St.Giles, Camberwell

According to "The House of Cherer" by R.S. SMITH (Rhodesian Christian Press 1987), Sarah Fish SMITH was born in France in 1812

 

Sophia daughter of James and Mary Ann SMITH, Borough Road, Shipwright, was baptised 18 April 1819 in St.George the Martyr, Southwark (born 14 June 1817)

 

[Given that Jame's firstborn daughter was given the middle name FISH, it seems likely that  the marriage below is that of James' parents]

 

Robert SMITH bachelor of this parish and Sarah FISH of the same parish were married by licence on 9th October 1781 in St.George the Martyr, Queen Square

Joseph CHERER, son of Jacob and Judith, was baptised 14 September 1766 in St.Martin in the Fields, Westminster (born August 23rd)

[This is the most plausible entry to be Mary Ann's father, especially as his wife's name was Sophia Elizabeth and Sophia Elizabeth CHERER was a witness at Mary Ann's wedding]

 

Joseph CHERER bachelor of this parish married Sophia Elizabeth NOBLE of the parish of Woodford in Essex, spinster and minor, by Licence on 1 January 1793 in St.Paul, Covent Garden

Mary Ann's baptism is almost certainly the one in St.Paul's, Covent Garden, on 10 May 1795, with the surname transcribed as CHESIER
