Jane son [sic] of Thom's and Mary SWEETNAM baptised December 4th 1776 in Warbleton, Sussex 

Samuel son of Thomas and Mary SWEATMAN baptised October 26 1778 in Warbleton, Sussex 

 

Parents: Thomas SWEETMAN married Mary KEMP by banns on 15 April 1771 in Warbleton, Sussex

Jenny daughter of Thomas and Mary BARTON baptised 3 June 1781 in Wartling, Sussex

 

Thomas SWEETMAN married Jane BARTON on 20 December 1802 in Wartling, Sussex

 

Mary SWEETMAN daughter of Thomas and Jane SWEETMAN baptised 2 January 1804 in Ninfield, Sussex (born 10 October 1803)

She married George HAYWARD shortly prior to sailing with MENEZE's Party

 

The children born to Thomas and Jane SWEATMAN/SWEETMAN between 1804 and 1808 in St.Bartholomew's, Burwash, Sussex are not the children of the 1820 settler. They are the children of Thomas SWEATMAN and Jane BALCOMB, who married in Burwash in 1803, and after Jane's death Thomas married yet another Jane, Jane STONE, in 1809 in Ewhurst. These Thomas/Janes are not directly connected to the settler family.

 

Death Notice (Cape Archives) of their son James SWEETNAM [sic] says he was born in Sittingbourne, Kent

Hannah and Ruth also supposedly born in Sittingbourne. Baptisms not found.

Thomas SWEETMAN 6 Jan > SB366 as a cooper until ship's arrival at the Cape of Good Hope [crew muster gives his age as 42 and his place of birth as Deal]

A child SWEETMAN was born on board on 7 April 1820 (named Richard)
