Elizabeth, daughter of James and Elizabeth CARNEY, St.George's E., Sadler, was baptised 14 November 1819 in St.John's, Wapping (born August 12th 1819)

 

Elisabeth LEACHER is certainly the one who emigrated in Dixon's Party, as the name Leacher was handed down in the family of their daughter Susannah, born at the Cape. Many sources in South Africa state that James' wife was Elizabeth CLARK, and there was a marriage of James CARNEY, widower, and Elizabeth CLARK on 2 February 1816 in St.Saviour, Southwark (this James previously married Elizabeth COATES on 9 February 1812 in St.Maryebone) but it is unlikely that this is the emigrant James CARNEY as there is a burial for a James CARNEY aged 44 in St.Saviours (the same church where the marriage to Elizabeth CLARK took place) on 17 August 1817.
