Death Notice (Cape Archives) says he was the son of Richard and Elizabeth CROUCH

Richard CROUCH married Sarah SMITH by banns on 6 October 1817 in Hungerford, Berkshire (near Wiltshire)

RG4/0232/f12 Register for Independent Chapel in Hungerford, Berkshire. John, the son of Richard CROUCH and Sarah his wife of Edington in the parish of Hungerford in the County of Berks born 27 July 1818 and baptised 20 September 1818.

Longbridge Deverill Vestry Minutes 1020/55:

£10 deposit paid for Richard CROUCH to emigrate to the Cape of Good Hope.

 

The Settler Return for FORD's Party lists two children, Jane (12) and Richard (5) who did not appear to sail with Richard and Sarah. It seems as if these were Sarah's children, born before her marriage to Richard CROUCH.
