Passenger lists in the Western Cape
Archives
The Western Cape Archives has kindly agreed to our photographing the relevant documents and adding the transcriptions to our database. They have been unable to supply any background information to any of these lists.
Included in the database are transcripts of:
IBC 6/1 Archives of the Immigration Board of Cape Town. 1857-1862 There are twenty lists of at least 29 voyages (not all lists to be found in the Archives) made during an emigration scheme (details as yet undetermined) which took place between 1858 and 1861.
KAB PWD 2-401 to 420 (complete series - photos by André van Wyk). This series contains passenger lists of assisted immgrants arriving between 1873 and 1884 at the port of Cape Town - the printed lists are headed Cape Immigration. There are lists for 47 different voyages. - that dated 4th December 1873 is described as the Fourth Immigration, that of 18 July 1883 as the 396th Immigration (of which we have 47 lists in total). Numbers of emigrants on a list vary from one or two per list to several dozens. The personal information provided for the immigrants is very variable from list to list.
